NCC plans site improvement
The National Construction College (NCC) wants to sell off 15ha of
its surplus land to fund £12.5m of improvements to its
facilities.
The NCC said the redevelopment is vital to secure its future.
Changing requirements and the deterioration in buildings and
infrastructure means the NCC is facing the closure of its
gymnasium, swimming pool and half of its residential accommodation
over the next four years.
As well as providing replacements for the above, the NCC also wants
a new entrance and reception centre with additional parking for
visitors.
Its proposals include 8ha to be sold off to a developer (with the
opportunity to build 250 homes - 25% affordable) and 7ha to be
returned to greenfield use.
The NCC's planning application is likely to be made in the middle
of April.
It is unlikely work will start on the college's redevelopment
before next spring.
