Nuttall wins A421/A428 deal

Edmund Nuttall has reaped a 'two-in-one' highways bonanza around Bedford and Cambridge, clocking up its highest-value early contractor involvement deal to date.
The contractor is on the road for the A421 Great Barford bypass and the A428 Caxton to Hardwick improvement, which the Highways Agency has rolled up into a single package. The job is valued at £79m.
The disappointed firms are May Gurney, Jackson, Mowlem and Costain.
Hopes are high that the
construction work will start within the next 12 months.
Work on Great Barford is expected to get under way first. It comprises 7.7km of dual carriageway.
Caxton Common is due to kick off during spring 2005. Another 7.7km bypass will be built.
The completion time for Great Barford is set at 86 weeks, while Caxton Common has a 91-week construction deadline.
