Jarvis staff to vote on strike over NR move

Strike action from rail maintenance workers is "inevitable" after the Rail Maritime & Transport (RMT) union said it was unhappy with responses from Jarvis and Network Rail (NR).
A ballot is due to be held tomorrow (Thursday) for 3,000 Jarvis staff over concerns of job security and paycuts following last week's transferal of contracts back to NR.
An RMT source said the situation looks bleak.
He said: "Jarvis and Network Rail have not addressed all the workers' concerns. You either come to the negotiating table with something to offer or not. I think the latter is the case."
A Jarvis source told CJ: "We feel we are piggy in the middle of this one. We sent our comments back to union officials, although there is not a lot we can do in this situation."
Emergency talks are due to take place after the Easter break between RMT and First Engineering. A total of 2,000 First staff are threatening strike action over increased pension contributions (CJ 24 March).
