Martyn Meade has expanded his Meade Corporation with the
acquisition of CJ Pearce, the Midlands-based construction
group.
Following Meade's successful bid for Thyssen in September last
year, that business has been rebranded as six distinct divisions,
each carrying the name of Butterley. The largest of the six is
Butterley Construction with an annual turnover of £50m.
Pearce is being merged into Butterley Construction and Charles
Coward, managing director of Pearce, has become Butterley
Construction's managing director.
The Pearce board remains the same. Katrina Scorey, Pearce's finance
director, becomes company secretary, while operations directors Ron
McBride and Karl Shaw are both now directors of the larger
construction business.
Pearce went into the red in the year to 31 March 2003 as a result
of two difficult contracts and unfavourable trading conditions. The
figures show a pre-tax loss of £840,000 on turnover of
£17m. In the previous year, a similar turnover had generated a
profit of £350,000.
