New talks avert maintenance strike at Jarvis
Last ditch talks between Jarvis and the Rail Maritime &
Transport (RMT) union have averted strike action by 3,000
maintenance employees.
Both Network Rail and Jarvis gave their assurances that there would
be no compulsory redundancies arising from the transfer of staff
from the contractor to the rail operator.
Meanwhile, talks were due to start between the RMT and First
Engineering yesterday (Wednesday) over the concerns of 2,000
maintenance workers about pension contribution increases of up to
4%. First Engineering has until 5pm on Wednesday to give a
satisfactory explanation to RMT officials.
The RMT is also unhappy with pension provisions for Carillion
Rail's 4,000 maintenance staff. The company has been given two
weeks to provide more detailed plans to the union.
