Brent lines up 10 for £60m homes upgrade
Ten firms are knocking on the door for a £60m-plus housing
upgrade deal in north London.
The scheme up for grabs is part of a three-year project to revamp
5,500 homes for Brent Housing Partnership, Brent council's arm's
length management organisation (ALMO).
The 10 are already working in Brent on the first year's tranche of
work, worth around £25m.
The ALMO is currently running the rule over the firms' performances
and it is understood that probably four of the outfits will be
selected to carry on and tackle tasks in tranches two and
three.
A source said: "Performance will be reviewed every year, with the
aim of entering into partnering arrangements with the best."
The aim is to bring the council's stock up to the decent homes
standard. Work includes replacing kitchens, bathrooms, windows and
roofs, rewiring and external decorations.
Brent is expected to make its final selection of contractors before
the close of this month.
