Sandvik Mining & Construction is aiming for a bigger slice of
the UK drilling rig market with the launch of two machines.
The company has launched its largest and most powerful Tamrock
Ranger series drilling rig, which it claims offers faster and
better drilling capacity.
The Ranger HL 800T is equipped with a revolving superstructure,
which is said to speed up the drilling process, as a coverage of
17.6m2 is possible.
The machine's power pack is mounted at the rear and this
counterbalances the weight of the boom, regardless of the drilling
direction. This, Sandvik said, ensures good stability in
any terrain.
According to Mark Haywood, sales manager for Sandvik UK,
down-the-hole system rigs currently dominate the British market,
but the versatility of the Ranger's top hammer equipment is ideal
for construction sites where a rough-terrain machine is needed.
The rig is also equipped with a new patented stabiliser, claimed to
adjust striking power according to variations in the rock, allowing
for optimum drill contact in all terrains.
"The new machine should also prove popular with quarrying
contractors as bench heights are coming down and top hammer
machines such as the Ranger will become increasingly popular,"
Haywood said.
Sandvik's other launch is
the BPI Titon 600 DTH rig, the largest machine in the six-model
Titon range.
"We launched the Titon range in the UK two years ago and we've sold
20 machines to drill and blast contractors and quarries," said
Haywood. "The new 600 will prove to be ideal for the UK market's
small to medium-sized quarries."
