Unloading death accidental
A coroner recorded a verdict of accidental death last week after a
teenager helping his brother to unload a trailer was crushed to
death last September.
Justin Bevan was offering assistance to his elder brother Simon,
who was unloading a digger on to a trailer attached to a 7.5t
lorry. When the lorry started rolling downhill at the boys' home in
Hollybush, south Wales, Justin began running after it.
But, as he attempted to get into the cab to stop the lorry, the
teenager fell and was crushed between the vehicle and a lorry
parked at the side of the road.
Newport Coroner's Court heard that Justin suffered an abdominal
injury that lacerated his liver and caused a fatal
haemorrhage.
As he recorded the accidental death verdict, Gwent coroner David
Bowen concluded: "This incident was down to ignorance rather than
any deliberate act."
