"Biggest" soilnailed wall

Miller Civil Engineering has started work on a soilnailed wall at the œ2 million St Mungo's Road Extension in Cumbernauld. The wall is claimed to be one of the largest of its kind in the UK.

Soilnailing is being used along a bank to create a 200m x 6m high retaining wall. The strength of the wall is attributed to high tensile steel nails, treated with 120-year corrosion protection.

These are bored 8m into the ground in a top-down process and grouted in place.
