The full timetable for the review group of the Construction Act has
been unveiled today (Friday) following its first meeting since its
formation after the Budget.
Chaired by Sir Michael Latham the group, which will look at
adjudication and how to tackle late and non-payment provisions
under the current legislation, expects to hand over its findings
and implementation proposals to government by the end of March next
year.
Other milestone points include the preparation of a paper setting
out issues and proposals in August and the evaluation of
consultation responses by the end of January.
As part of the review a new working group will be set up to deal
with the payment provisions and will report to Latham in
July.
Members of the working group have yet to be determined.
Latham said: "The group has agreed a timetable that will strike the
right balance to make sure we have enough discussion but which
ensures we address the urgency of our work.
"A lot of work has been done already by the construction umbrella
bodies, identifying possible improvements and we hope that detailed
consideration of proposals will begin early in the summer."
