Wallis, part of the Kier Group, has been awarded a £4.3m contract to carry out the second stage of improvement works at the Barbican Centre for the Corporation of London.
Work comprises the removal of an existing bridge, the installation of a new internal bridge (18m long and 7.6m wide), connecting Silk Street to Lakeside; relocating and renewing information points, ticket sales points, bars, coffee and retail points making them readily visible and easily accessible.
Improvement work to the lighting will also be carried out, making it possible to create different moods for different events.
This phase of the project (due for completion in November 2004) forms part of a major £12.25m redevelopment scheme carefully phased over five years and is scheduled for completion in February 2005.
