Wolseley will open an outlet in Middlesbrough next month that
combines its Plumb, Build, Drain, Hire and Parts Center businesses
under one roof.
The near 5,000m2 Wolseley Trade Park unit opens on 1 June at
Skippers Lane. Two similar centres are already open in Highgate,
north London, and Gravesend, Kent. However, these are not bespoke,
simply extensions and refurbs of existing Builder Centers, and do
not include all five key brands.
Wolseley sales and marketing director David Moody said: "Trade
customers want the reassurance of a trade centre to stock the
products and give the specialist advice they need. But those that
operate across a range of sectors increasingly want the convenience
of having everything they need in one place."
The concept emerged after Wolseley found success with the "implant
concept" where customers can visit, for example, a Plumb Center
store within a Build Center outlet.
"This branch-in-a-branch concept has proved popular and the
Wolseley Trade Park is a logical extension of this approach," Moody
said.
The other two brands that Wolseley operates, Pipe Center and
Climate Center, do not feature as part of the Trade Park
plan.
The company admitted that over the years it has been "the biggest
company no one has ever heard of" and that "it proves its worth
through results, so no one has ever cared what it does".
In March, Wolseley moved from a divisional structure to a brand
structure and launched the Climate and Parts Center brands.
Moody said: "After years in hibernation we have now fully redefined
our role.
"The new brands and trade parks are proof that Wolseley has no
intention of standing still," Moody said.
