Apprentices set to get pay rise of up to 16%
Pay rises this summer of up to 16% for building and civil
engineering apprentices have been agreed by the Construction
Industry Joint Council (CIJC).
A meeting of the CIJC last week agreed a front-loaded, one-year pay
settlement for apprentices to take effect from 22 June.
The deal meets union demands for a substantial increase in the
first and second year rates for apprentices with a view to boosting
industry recruitment. It also rewards NVQ attainment.
The terms are:
n The first year hourly rate rises from £3.13 to £3.50
(11.8%).
n The second year rate rises from £3.86 to £4.48
(16%).
n In the third year, the rate without NVQ 2 rises from £5.44
to £5.50 (1.1%). The rate with NVQ 2 rises from £6.10 to
£6.54 (7.2%). And the rate with NVQ 3 rises from £7.67 to
£8.22 (7.2%).
