HSE warns it will enforce asbestos regs
In two days' time firms that have not got an asbestos management
plan in place to comply with the Control of Asbestos at Work
Regulations 2002 could face enforcement action from the Health
& Safety Executive (HSE).
The regulations place responsibility on anyone in charge of the
building and responsible for maintenance and repair to ensure that
any asbestos is properly located, recorded and managed.
"Duty holders have had 18 months to prepare a strategy," said Peter
Irvine, asbestos expert with international construction consultant
The Dearle & Henderson Group. "Doing nothing is not an option,
even at this late stage. The HSE has warned that it will enforce in
cases of total inactivity."
