Whipps Cross University Hospital NHS Trust has advertised its £250m PFI scheme to redevelop the District General Hospital in Leytonstone, east London.
The Trust's proposals comprise the construction of 105,700m2 of new floorspace, increasing capacity by 25% with an 8% increase in beds and accommodation for 400 key workers.
The contract will also include a new South Bank University Faculty of Education for up to 1,400 students. The initial phase of building will involve 3,300m2 to 4,000m2 of space, but this could rise to as much as 10,800m2. Accommodation for up to 750 medical students is also required. A 1,980m2 indoor sports hall is also part of the plans.
The project, which has an overall value of about £303m, is expected to be phased over an 11 year period. The maintenance and facilities management contract will be for 30 years.
Firms have until 8 July to register interest in bidding for the scheme.
