Local government procurement expert given £62.5m

Local government procurement expert, 4ps, has been awarded funding to support the 14 local authority partnerships selected under DEFRA's Waste Minimisation and Recycling Challenge Fund in England.

From the £62.5m fund, 11 local authority partnerships have been allocated £5m and three allocated £2.5m, over two years.

The funding will be used to improve the authorities' waste management infrastructure, including the provision of new and enhanced kerbside collection schemes, household waste sites and recycling and composting facilities, with 4ps contracted to provide relevant procurement support and guidance.

This two-year investment programme is part of the government's long term waste strategy to improve recycling and composting and to reduce the amount of waste sent to landfill.

4ps director for waste management, Alan Burnett, said: "The selected local authorities have challenging two year projects to deliver which 4ps is well placed to assist with.

"Our involvement in these projects will also enable us to develop best practice guidance which can be used in the wider waste community."
