Moss Construction, part of Kier Group, has won a £5.1m contract to extend and refurbish a department store, Camp Hopson, in Newbury.
Works will be phased, firstly to allow for enabling works to
ensure all services are safe and operational for trading to
continue while demolition works to the rear of the store take
place.
This will make way for a new three-storey extension that, following
completion, will comprise the trading area during the refurbishment
of the existing front section of the store.
Two new shells for independent retail units will be incorporated at the front of the building at ground and first floor levels.
In addition to increased sales capacity the new facilities will offer automatic doors and a modern air-conditioned retail environment whilst retaining the Grade 2 listed façade to the existing store frontage.
The rest of the project team comprises: architect: Sutton
Griffin Architects: quantity surveyor The Pelling Partnership;
structural engineer Archibald Shaw; and services engineer
RHB.
