Birse Water to upgrade Wolverhampton sewage treatment works


Birse Water has been awarded a £3m contract by Severn Trent Engineering to improve the Coven Heath sewage treatment works in Wolverhampton.

The multi-disciplinary project involves the construction of new structures as well as the installation of mechanical and electrical plant.

The purpose of the project is to provide: 

  • Additional tertiary treatment in the form of new sand filtration and nitrifying submerged aerated filtration.
  • Additional storm storage.
  • New storm discharge.
  • Various asset renewals and improvement works to the existing water treatment plants.

The 34-week project is due for completion at the end of March 2005.
