Battle to succeed Brumwell at UCATT goes to final ballot
The battle to take over from George Brumwell as UCATT general
secretary will run until August after the first ballot failed to
produce a clear winner.
Alan Ritchie, Scottish regional secretary, topped the poll with
47.1% of votes cast, but with London regional organiser Michael
Dooley gaining 24.6% of votes in second place it was not enough to
win outright.
The pair will go head to head in the final ballot in August after
the other two candidates, Jimmy Woods and Ronald Sinclair, were
forced to drop out of the running under union rules.
Brumwell retires from UCATT after 13 years service in October to
succeed Tony Merricks as chairman of the Construction Skills
Certification Scheme.
