Health funders raise £600,000
The B&CE benefits company has put up £200,000 towards the
estimated £1.3m cost of launching a pilot occupational health
scheme for construction. Matching contributions of £200,000
have also come from the Health & Safety Executive and the
Department for Work and Pensions.
The pilot is due to be launched this autumn. It will be run by an
industry-led company called Constructing Better Health, which is
chaired by UCATT general secretary George Brumwell.
The union chief said: "These contributions have really kick-started
the fund-raising process for the pilot. We will be seeking further
funding from both the industry and other sources."
B&CE chief executive Brian Griffiths said: "B&CE has been
working closely with Constructing Better Health to set up the
administration company to manage the pilot. We are delighted that
the scheme has now raised half its necessary funding."
