Battle hots up for £12m MoD hangar projects
Ten contractors have got their call-up papers for two Ministry of
Defence hangar projects worth more than £12m in total.
Amec, Clugston, Costain, Balfour Beatty and Mowlem are battling for
a £7.5m deal at RAF Leconfield near
Beverley, Yorkshire.
The job involves designing and building a hangar for three Sea King
helicopters, plus
ancillary buildings, approach
and take-off strips, and infrastructure works. The winning
contractor is expected to surface in October.
The second deal, worth at least £5m, involves the restoration
of hangar building 1205 at RAF Fairford, near Cirencester,
Gloucestershire.
In the hunt for the design and build task are Walter Lawrence,
Trant Construction, Warings, North Midland Construction and West
Midlands firm Shaylor.
