Construction has key role in plastic coatings

The construction industry is a key area for the future of developments in plastic coatings in western Europe, according to a survey by Information Research.
Senior research executive Terry Knowles estimates the construction sector accounts for 18% of the region's market. Fireproof coatings, hygienic coatings, decoration and coatings to protect uPVC were all identified as growth areas.
"There's a move towards personalisation as materials such as extruded guttering and pipes can be custom-manufactured. There's the possibility in the future that companies can develop discrete finishes, or there's the potential of using coatings to produce thousands of different shades and colours."
Knowles added that plastic coatings provide greater chemical resistance, which could prevent yellowing of PVC, for example.
