Amec, Lovell Partnerships, George Wimpey and Urban Splash have all been shortlisted to redevelop Park Hill in Sheffield. The four companies were picked by Sheffield City Council and English Partnerships from a list of 14 submissions.
Three registered socials landlords (RSL) have also been shortlisted: Derwent Living; Manchester Methodist Housing; and Riverside Housing.
Park Hill is the largest Grade II listed building in the country; it comprises 995 flats and maisonettes arranged in a series of interconnecting blocks.
The redevelopment of the
13ha site is intended to create a mixed-use sustainable development to include owner-occupied housing and social rented properties, managed by the chosen RSL.
Work will include permanent repairs to the exterior, structural repairs and the refurbishment of the interior.
The shortlisted developers will now draw up detailed submissions, which will be assessed against various criteria, including: delivery and track record; experience of projects of a similar size; understanding of the wider regeneration impact; design excellence; and
funding proposals.
n The Guinness Trust in partnership with Bellway Homes (Northern Home Counties) will be responsible for developing around 230 homes on the Broughton D site in Milton Keynes. The demonstration project will include environmental initiatives, such as rainwater harvesting and combined heat and power systems.
Construction is due to start on site in September, with the first sales expected in spring 2005.
