Ringway reaps congestion benefit
Blacktop contractor Ringway enjoyed a leap in turnover last year to
£78m, largely as a result of winning a stream of projects to
deliver the congestion charging scheme in London.
Pre-tax profit in the same period (12 months to 31 December 2003)
was also higher at £2.8m.
Ringway is part of the £307m-a-year turnover Ringway Group,
owned by Vinci, the French contractor. Founded 27 years ago, it
specialises in blacktop work in the London area and is
headed up by managing director Mike Betchley.
Last year, Ringway bagged two of the five areas on offer by
Transport for London to implement its new congestion-charging
scheme - the north central and the north western zones. The other
three areas went to Fitzpatrick (two) and McNicholas (one).
The work involved resurfacing, painting an array of large red C
symbols around the fringes of the zones and other signage.
