As Jarvis entered one of its most critical weeks, Lancaster University revealed that contingency plans are in place to provide cover should Jarvis go down.
Responding to media speculation, the university’s director of finance and resources Andrew Neil said older blocks earmarked for demolition have been retained to ensure that no student will be homeless come next September.
Under the existing three-phase development, Jarvis should have 600 new rooms available in September.
Lancaster’s 30-year contract provides for many scenarios, including financial difficulties on the part of the contractor in the Special Purpose Vehicle (SPV) charged with providing 3,400 new and replacement rooms in total.
The client issued a statement saying that the SPV has "step in" rights if these are required.
