CC members raise doubts over software

The Construction Confederation (CC) has launched an investigation into Ramesys construction software following a number of complaints from its members.

In its latest newsletter, it states: "Some Confederation member companies have reported experiencing problems with software systems provided by Ramesys (Construction), in particular Ramesys Construct and Axim software applications. If you have purchased or leased software or systems from this company, please contact the legal department on 020 7608 5046."

General building contractor Rod Frampton is one member who has brought his concerns to the attention of the CC. He told CJ: "This product, in our opinion, is extremely difficult to use, with poor functionality, and contains numerous bugs and shortcomings, which plague the system and necessitate the need for major updates, reworkings, workarounds and patches."

A CC spokesman added: "We want to determine if it is an operational or a software issue. We have had quite a few responses, but not necessarily all negative ones."

Ramesys managing director Mark Chambers said: "More than 50,000 people are using our IT solutions on a daily basis in more than 2,000 organisations. We are mystified and disappointed that the CC has decided to go it alone in soliciting comments regarding our products without any reference to ourselves.

"We are pleased that it admits to receiving some positive feedback, but inevitably if it has restricted its sample survey to our business alone, it is bound to lead to a skewed view from a minority of customers.

"We believe the future of construction lies in embracing the concept of partnering. It is a shame that those working in a representative function do not share that view," he concluded.
