Balfour Beatty subsidiary, RCS (Raynesway Construction Southern Ltd), has been awarded a major new highway maintenance contract with a potential value of £30m.
The contract, awarded by Wokingham District Council, starts on 1 October and is worth £4.25m per year for a minimum of five years. There is a possible extension to seven years.
The contract, which covers 684km of roads, includes emergency call-outs and winter maintenance, together with routine highway maintenance, planned structural maintenance and improvement schemes.
The RCS submission was successful on the basis of an evaluation system in which technical quality in addition to price was a substantial part of the decision process.
Over 40 personnel are expected to transfer to RCS under TUPE (Transfer of Undertakings (Protection of Employment)).
