HA announces £200m M1 tender list

The Highways Agency (HA) has announced the shortlist for its £200m M1 junction 6a to 10 improvements contract.

The bidders are: Balfour Beatty/Skanska; Laing O’Rourke; Mowlem/Costain; Sir Robert MAlpine/Morgan Est; Amec/Alfred McAlpine.

Work involves the widening of the M1 to four lanes, from junction 6a, at the intersection of the M25 motorway, to junction 10.

New parallel link roads will also be constructed between junction 7(A414) and junction 8(M10) to cater for local traffic traveling between Hemel Hempstead and St Albans.

The contract is expected to be awarded early next year, with work expected to start on site in Autumn 2005.
