Wilson to bow out of politics

Former construction minister Brian Wilson is to stand down from politics after the next general election.

The MP for Cunninghame North took control of construction as part of his energy portfolio when construction came under the control of the Department of Trade & Industry from the Department for Transport, Local Government and the Regions in 2001.

However, many in industry felt Wilson made very little impact before being replaced by the current construction minister Nigel Griffiths in June last year.

In a letter to his local constituency party Wilson said that his decision to bow out of politics was based on “personal rather than political reasons” and added that he would not be standing for re-election for the Ayrshire constituency after the elections, which are expected to be held in November.

“I’ve done my stint, I hope I’ve made a decent contribution and it’s time to move on,” said Wilson.
