Lafarge Roofing has developed a tile to respond to local authority
planning criteria.
The company has created a large-format, interlocking tile, which
looks like a traditional plain tile, to meet the requirements of
the new PPG3 planning guidelines. The regulations demand that new
developments are sympathetic to the surrounding architecture.
Lafarge Roofing sales and marketing director Paul Larcey said:
"PPG3 has had a profound effect on housebuilders. Planners are
pushing for use of traditional roofing materials and the market has
seen a rise in use of natural slate and clay. But cost is an issue
for developers, and they look for products that mimic traditional
materials, but are also cost-effective."
Lafarge Roofing has invested £1m in developing the Redland
DuoPlain, which is available in four colours, and with a full range
of fittings, including tile and a half, left- and right-hand verge
tiles, and a vent tile for roofspace ventilation.
