Adjudication paper on hold again
The industry's eagerly-awaited consultation paper on adjudication
and late payment is likely to be delayed until next year, according
to sources.
It was anticipated that the paper, which was generated from Sir
Michael Latham's review group looking into adjudication and how to
tackle late and non-payment provisions, would be released to
industry by the Department of Trade & Industry (DTI) in
October.
However, officials close to the review group told CJ that the
government has now decided to change the timetable after
speculation that a general election might be held early.
"It's all change again," said the source. "The government seems to
be of the mind that it needs an early general election as next year
might be a rocky one for Labour, what with a forthcoming referendum
on Europe."
The source added that both the payment and adjudication groups were
on schedule to hand in their reports to Latham by next Thursday
before he adds his comments and submits the report to the DTI.
