Man Utd set to increase capacity at Old Trafford to 75,000

Manchester United FC's plan to increase the capacity at Old Trafford to 75,000 has moved a step closer after it submitted a formal planning application to Trafford Council.

The Premiership club intend to fill in both corners of the massive North Stand to add a further 7,500 seats and ensure it maintains its position as the biggest club ground in Britain.

The move is likely to cost Mancherter United £40m. Preparatory work, including moving gas and water pipes, has already been carried out.

United will now await the council's decision, although there are unlikely to be any problems.

Its board will then have to decide whether to go ahead with the scheme prior to the main construction contracts being awarded early next year.
