Warings goes for 20% waste cut
Warings chief executive Len Salter has challenged his staff to cut
waste in its processes by at least 10% over the next year.
With the help of Constructing Excellence, Warings has spent 15
months analysing its processes, the result of which is a business
process map that can be accessed by all the contractor's staff via
its intranet.
Salter said: "By visually demonstrating the relationships between
each process, we can determine if there is a need or potential for
change or improvement to that process. We can distinguish between
waste and value-adding activities.
"The target is 10% and I believe our staff will achieve that easily
- 20% could be possible," Salter said.
Savings have been made on site in planning and logistics, resulting
in a time saving worth £250,000 on one project.
"Inefficiency is the enemy," Salter said.
