Amec misses out on schools work

Amec looks to have suffered a blow to its hopes of mopping up nearly £300m-worth of schools work in South Lanarkshire.
Insiders said the council has chalked up the names of Bovis Lend Lease and Mowlem for a £100m framework deal that involves building 20 new schools. AWG and Carillion also lost out.
A project source said: "The council has gone for two firms because the project is spread over a five-year period and a single firm might find it difficult to juggle workload over that time."
The council will name the winning contractors in the next
three weeks.
Amec is in the frame for South Lanarkshire's £190m PPP deal. It is up against a Bovis/Amey jv.
