Welsh Assembly set to announce shortlist on delayed £45m scheme
The waiting game is almost over for contractors hoping to make the
bid list for a Welsh Assembly roads deal that first came up for
grabs almost a year ago.
The £35m to £45m Drome Corner to Ewloe improvement in
north Wales first surfaced last November, but then disappeared into
a black hole.
A project source said that "a variety of factors" had delayed the
scheme. But after a series of deadlines had come and gone, he said
that the Assembly is finally expected to shortlist five contractors
next month to bid for the early contractor
involvement deal.
He told CJ: "There were design issues to be settled and the tender
documents had to
be finalised.
It is understood that Network Rail had wanted its own contractors
to tackle work on railway bridges, which form an integral part of
the deal.
The scheme includes: widening 3.5km of the A494 to dual, three and
four-lane highway; new bridges over the River Dee and at the
Queensferry Interchange; and alterations and extensions to bridges
at Ewloe
roundabout junction.
