Controlled Demolition employs technology to reduce operative risks
Controlled Demolition is using technology to eliminate risk from
its operations.
Instead of scaffolding, it uses long-reach excavators; and rather
than send operatives into unstable environments, it uses
remote-control Brokk machines.
Operations director Steve Forster told conference delegates that
Controlled's activities were potentially the most dangerous of all
construction's specialisms.
"We provide asbestos removal, traditional, emergency and explosive
demolition and decommissioning services. To reduce accidents and
injuries onsite, we believe demolition should be carried out using
remote methodology and sensible work
exclusion zones," said Forster.
He added that clients often exert unrealistic time pressure on
Contolled's traditional demolition activities, but never on
explosive demolition, "because they don't understand it and know we
are the experts".
Controlled Demolition is the current holder of the CJ Silver Helmet
Award for Safety.
