Volvo has increased its share of the world construction equipment
market and is introducing a range of machines that will see its
sales increase further, said Didier Teirlinck, president of Volvo
Compact Equipment.
He pointed to the new range of compact radius excavators, new
compact wheel loaders, a new backhoe loader and the impending skid
steer launch as areas where Volvo will increase its market
share.
The introduction of a four model range of compact radius excavators
means Volvo's coverage of the compact excavator market will
increase from 45% (by model) to more than 70%, only missing out on
sub-1t and above-8.2t models.
Peter Sebold, project manager for the new ECR range, said 20% to
30% of compact excavator sales in Europe are of short radius
machines.
The company said adding the L30B Pro and L35B Pro wheel loaders
only makes a small increase in market coverage, while the new BL61
backhoe boosts coverage to around 75% of the market.
"Around 40% of the backhoe market is for lower powered (60kW)
machines and that is where the BL61 fits,"
Teirlinck said.
The BL61 comes with Powershuttle transmission only, whereas the
BL71 has a Powershift option and will be marketed as a premium
machine. Skid steer machines should be launched in Europe early
next year.
n Volvo will stop production of the 750kg payload site dumper it
inherited from Pel-Job once the current production run
has ended.
