Problems remain for Suffolk road deal
Shadows still hang over a £30m-plus Suffolk County Council
road deal, although one of the major obstacles has been
removed.
Earlier this year, Breheny was first choice for the South Lowestoft
and Carlton Colville Relief Road.
But five local people tried to overturn compulsory purchase orders,
threatening to take the council to the High Court.
It is now understood that the protestors have dropped their
challenge at the 11th hour, but Suffolk will still have to
renegotiate the deal with the local firm.
An insider said: "If it can't reach agreement with Breheny, the
scheme may have to go out to tender all over again."
Furthermore, government funding was agreed four years ago and
inflation has now bumped up costs from £24.4m to around
£31m.
