One bidder left for Merseytram
Merseytram consortium M-Tram (Amec/Serco/Mitsubushi/Ned-Rail) has
pulled out of the bidding for the £225m light rail scheme
because of concerns over Liverpool City Council's (LCC) new choice
of route.
This now leaves only the MET Consortium of Balfour
Beatty/Keolis/Parsons Brinckerhoff in the running. A winner was due
to be announced last month.
Serco led the pull-out of the consortium. It announced its decision
to the council last week.
Problems began a month ago when LCC called for the replacement of
the proposed Line 2 route, which was due to end at Whiston
Hospital, with a new route diverted to John Lennon Airport.
Serco said: "The calls for John Lennon Airport to be included in
Line 2 give rise to concerns and we consider the project risk too
high."
