Chepstow Plant to provide Barhale with bespoke Volvo EC360 excavator
Chepstow Plant International has entered a long-term hire agreement
to supply Barhale Construction Services with a highly modified
Volvo EC360B excavator. The two companies, along with Volvo and
Kocurek, are building an excavator able to dig to depths of up to
28m below ground.
Barhale owns the specialist Kocurek extending dipper with 0.8m3
clamshell grab. Plant manager Peter Chappell specified that the
machine should be able to lift high enough to load a 25t ADT.
Kocurek widened the excavator's track frames by 150mm on either
side to carry the 8.5t dipper arm assembly. An extra counterweight
was added, taking the operating weight to around 50t.
Barhale hopes the machine will offer health and safety benefits by
reducing the amount of personnel working in water shafts.
When not sinking shafts, the EC360B can be fitted with a standard
dipper arm in under 10 minutes thanks to Kocurek's modular mounting
system. Chappell has also asked Kocurek to build an 18m-long reach
arm.
