Lord Warner to face ProCure 21 grilling

Health minister Lord Warner is expected to face tough questions about the future of ProCure 21 from delegates attending a construction conference today (Tuesday).

Lord Warner has been invited to speak about NHS Estates’ ProCure 21 initiative, at the Department of Trade & Industry (DTI) conference Innovation in Healthcare Construction, chaired by construction minister Nigel Griffiths.

Delegates are expected to ask the health minister why NHS Estates is to be abolished when the DTI’s recent Innovation Report praised it for setting up the ProCure 21 framework, recommending similar initiatives be adopted across the public sector.

One delegate said: “This is a typical case of the right hand of government not knowing what the left hand is doing. While the DTI report praises NHS Estates for embracing all the tenets of Achieving Excellence in Construction in the form of ProCure 21, the Department of Health is busy dismantling that achievement.”
