Adjudicator rules in favour of Cleveland Bridge over Wembley row

Cleveland Bridge has won its battle against Multiplex who claimed that it overpaid the steel contractor by up to £14m for its work on the £757m Wembley project.

An adjudication hearing has ruled that Multiplex in fact owes Cleveland Bridge in excess of £430,000.

A statement from Cleveland Bridge confirmed the outcome of the ruling. It added: "We await further clarification from the adjudicator and hope the result of this will mean that further monies will also be paid to us.

"This outcome supports Cleveland Bridge's view that Multiplex did not honour its commitments with regard to the agreements made in June of this year."

It added: "Cleveland Bridge remains steadfast in its resolve to protect its interests, and the interests of all of the people that work for the company."

Cleveland Bridge has launched two further adjudications against Multiplex, claiming it is owed a further £4.5m, and awaits the results.

A Multiplex spokeswoman responded: "We were ordered to pay less than £450,000 and are happy with the arbitration decision."
