Two charged with manslaughter over Tebay rail deaths

Two men have been charged with manslaughter and bailed until next month following the deaths of four rail workers at Tebay in Cumbria earlier this year.

Mark Connolly, 42, managing director of rail contracting company Mac Machinery, and Roy Kennet, 27, a former crane operator, will appear at Kendal Magistrates' Court on 2 November.

Colin Buckley, 49, of Carnforth, Lancashire; Darren Burgess, 30, also of Carnforth; Chris Waters, 53, of Morecambe, Lancashire; and Gary Tindall, 46, of Tebay died after they were hit by a flatbed truck which had rolled down a slope on to the line they were working on on 15 February.

Connolly and Kennet were charged with four counts of manslaughter when they answered police bail today (Thursday).

Connolly, from Anglesey, north Wales, also faces three health and safety charges, and one of attempting to pervert the course of justice, while Kennet, from Maidstone, Kent, faces one extra health and safety charge.
