Castle to burn agricultural waste
Castle Cement may find itself a local burgher of the incineration
industry after it won a licence to burn agricultural waste.
The company gained permission to burn agricultural waste derived
fuel (AWDF), including cow carcasses, for a trial period of six
months.
Castle plans to burn 60,000t of AWDF a year, saving 45,000t of coal
at its Ribblesdale works.
The firm claims the high temperature of the burning process will
not produce unpleasant odours, although the raw material does have
"a smell similar to dog biscuits".
