Strategic Forum to give targets update

The Strategic Forum will release a progress update early next year on whether it is reaching its targets for industry improvement.

Chairman of the forum Peter Rogers said: “Initial indications show that we are well on our way to meeting the targets.”

Constructing Excellence, alongside the Construction Clients’ Group (CCG), is currently carrying out a survey of construction clients. This is to determine whether the forum has reached its end of 2004 target of 20% of construction projects by value to be undertaken by integrated teams and supply chains.

Christopher Morley, executive director of CCG, said: “The belief is that the forum has already met that 20% target when you look at departments such as NHS Estates and the Highways Agency, both of which embrace the use of integrated teams and churn out a large volume of construction work. The real challenge is meeting the next integrated team use target of 50% by 2007.”

Other forum targets that will be reviewed by the new year include: 20% of client activity by value embracing principles of the Clients’ Charter, increasing to 50% by 2007; and forum members to develop and implement strategies that will enable the industry to recruit and retain 300,000 qualified people by the end of 2006.
