Construction accused of exploiting migrant workers
The number of migrant workers in the UK economy as a whole could be as many as one to two million, according to George Brumwell, the recently retired general secretary of UCATT.
Brumwell also said there was clear evidence that these workers were being exploited in the construction industry – particularly where there were concentrations of Polish and Portuguese migrants.
“UCATT is concentrating its efforts in securing a fair deal for operatives from both these countries and is building links with representative organisations in the UK,” he declared.
