Amey and BEAR await Scots trunk roads fate
Amey Highways and BEAR Scotland will know soon whether their
Scottish trunk roads maintenance contracts will be extended beyond
the initial five years.
Amey secured the south-west and south-east deals, while BEAR
(Babtie, Ennstone and Ringway) won the north-west and north-east
deals in 2001.
Last week a prior information notice from the Scottish Executive
appeared in the OJEU. It reveals that the four deals will be re-let
in two phases: two regions will be advertised in early 2005 (with a
view to starting on site in April 2006); while the other two will
appear in the OJEU in 2006 (with a start on site in either 2007 or
2008).
The Scottish Executive would not be drawn on which of the current
contracts will be extended and which would be terminated after five
years.
In 2003/04, BEAR performed better than Amey Highways, having been
served with eight default notices, according to the Performance
Audit Group.
Amey was served with 16 default notices during the same period.
