NFB applauds national training programme proposal

The National Federation of Builders (NFB) has applauded the Chancellor's proposal for a national training programme as outlined in his Pre-Budget speech.

Barry Stephens, chief executive, said: “We look forward to closer inspection on how it will interface with the CITB Construction Skills programme and offer real benefits to the construction industry.

“Likewise, we are pleased that the recent increase in public spending has been retained and expect a proportion of this money to be ring fenced for constructing the schools, hospitals, homes and roads that our members can tender for.

Stephens added: "With many of our members swimming against an ever-increasing tide of regulation and legislation we are pleased that a review of rationalising inspection and enforcement regimes is on course.

“It is hoped that his report will lead to the reform of the regulations that have reportedly cost the economy £30bn since their introduction in 1998.

"Cutting through the red tape will allow our members to focus their time and money on creating jobs, delivering training to their workforce and increasing productivity.”
