Newcastle council unveils £220m building deal

Newcastle City Council has advertised a construction works framework worth up to £220m.

Running for four years, the deal is split into lots covering general building work (both new build and refurbishment), refurb M&E and roofing work, demolition, and landscape and environmental works.

Contractors can bid for one, several or all lots, which will be subdivided by work value.

The total value of the framework is undecided, but over the last two years, workload in these areas amounted to £50m to £55m a year. Work will be allocated on a rotational basis in the first year and thereafter on a performance management system.

The deadline for expressions of interest is 12 January 2005. Invitations to tender will be dispatched in mid-February. The council wants to have contractors in place in April/May.
