Jarvis is no longer in the running for the London Borough of Lambeth’s £35.2m streetlighting PFI deal. A company spokesman said: "Jarvis will not be going forward to the next stage of the selection process."
It is not clear whether the council ditched the firm, or if Jarvis took the decision to drop out. Jarvis’s departure leaves David Webster and EDF Energy to contest the deal.
Meanwhile, sources say that East Sussex and Brighton & Hove County Councils are in talks with Jarvis about the future of their £6m three-year streetlighting contract. One insider said: "No decisions have been reached and the position is that Jarvis is still the councils’ contractor."
The councils have drawn up a plan for Colas to step in should Jarvis encounter trouble.
